Hi!
My name is José Carlos Camillo.
I'm currently a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship (ESKAS) holder and a postdoctoral fellow at the Université de Genève, hosted by Fabrice Terroni, where I investigate historical and philosophical aspects of the research on the functions of episodic memory. I'm also a member of the Thumos group.
My Ph.D. in Philosophy is from the Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG), Brazil, supervised by Guilherme Ghisoni and James Openshaw. I spent part of my graduate studies as a visiting Ph.D. student at the Center for Philosophy of Memory (CPM) at the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), France, under the supervision of Kourken Michaelian. I also spent six months as a Guest Ph.D. Student at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, under the supervision of Kristina Liefke, funded by a DAAD grant.
My Ph.D thesis focused on the accuracy of episodic memory. In particular, I propose that accuracy conditions for episodic memory should be derived from the function of the episodic memory system.
Besides philosophy of cognitive sciences (which is the focus of my thesis), I'm also interested in philosophy of science, philosophy of language and epistemology.
Please have a look at my publications in the Research section if you are interested in my work.
In the picture on the left, you can see me creating the memory of seeing snow for the first time. Coincidentally, the photo was taken in front of the Center for the Philosophy of Memory, where, if I remember correctly, I lived delightful episodes discussing the philosophy of memory.
